Celtic winger Luis Palma addresses an ‘issue’ he has at international level with Honduras

One of the great things about the international break is that the Celtic supporters get to see their heroes face up to some of the best players in the world.

Celtic striker, Adam Idah, found life tough against England last night in a 2-0 Nations League home defeat.

Daizen Maeda got himself on the scoresheet in a 7-0 rout of China after coming on as a second-half substitute this week as well.

However, it was Luis Palma who was in the spotlight tonight where after a 4-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago, the Celtic winger faced questions about an ‘issue’ that has cropped up about his form for Honduras lately.

Luis Palma not bothered about lack of international goals

Palma is one of Honduras’ biggest exports and at Celtic, he plays for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

So when a small matter of lack of goals crops up, it is going to get noticed and Palma was quizzed about it in the post-match press conference.

Palma told Diario Diez, “As a group I am happy with the team, with the performance, it was difficult for me to find our game, but we knew how to assimilate the moment, that was important to look for our game, our style of work.

“Personally, it doesn’t bother me at all, as long as the National Team wins and I can do a good job, that’s enough, that I can support them with the situation of the match, that’s an issue that goes into the background.”

Palma’s goalscoring exploits

With 14 caps for his country, Palma has only netted once since making his debut against Costa Rica back in August 2021.

In fact, it took over two years for the Celtic attacker to get his goal and it was in the 4-0 win over Grenada in September 2023.

It’s now been six games since that goal but to be fair to Palma, he has created six assists in seven games since that night.

Having just returned from injury for Celtic, Palma will be rusty and need time to get up to match speed. With Jamaica up next in the early hours of Wednesday morning, the Honduran winger will be hoping to put an end to this run and return to Celtic high in confidence in time for the upcoming Champions League campaign.
