Celtic have just won their second Glasgow derby clash of the day, after the Hoops women defeated Rangers 4-1.

The victory was a huge one as the Hoops recorded their third SWPL1 win of the season. It was the first women’s Glasgow derby of the new campaign and takes Celtic up to second place. They’re now just two points behind champions Glasgow City.

Josi Giard, Kelly Clark, and Natalie Ross had Celtic 3-0 ahead heading into half-time. Megan Cunningham also denied Rangers from the penalty spot in the first half too.

Kathleen McGovern got the fourth 55 minutes in, before Rangers scored a consolation late on. It was a simply stunning performance from Eddie Wolecki Black’s Ghirls.

It also backs up a generally positive start to Wolecki Black’s first season in charge of the women’s team. It’s early days yet, but three wins from five is a decent return in a highly competitive division.

It concludes a dominant weekend for Celtic over Rangers. Glasgow is certainly green-and-white today for women’s football, even if Glasgow City will have something to say about that.

The game at New Tinto Park this afternoon was totally one-way traffic. It wasn’t quite the nail-biter we had from the men’s team at Celtic Park. But at the end of the day, both sides ended up taking three points.

Next up for the women’s team is a home clash against leaders Glasgow City in over two weeks’ time. The game will take place at K-Park, and will be a big opportunity for Celtic to prove they can eat into Glasgow City’s dominance of women’s football over the years.

City have won the SWPL1 12 times in-a-row. Wolecki Black will know all about it too considering he lifted four of them whilst in charge of City between 2011 and 2015.

Now, he’ll have his long-term goal set on putting a halt to their incredible dominance of the women’s game.

But for today, Wolecki Black and his side can bask in the glory of solidifying Glasgow as green-and-white – regardless of gender.
