Celtic youngster Adam Montgomery managed to grab himself an assist in his first game under new Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin, proving to be an effective outlet on the left flank.
Montgomery played 70 minutes of the encounter, with Goodwin looking for fresh legs in the final portion of the game to force a winner in an eventual 1-1 draw.
It was good work from the Celtic youngster that led to the Dons opener, as he surged down the left-hand side before squaring for Vicente Besuijen who scored his first goal for the Pittodrie side.
Montgomery has struggled to impress Aberdeen supporters in his first few appearances for the club but today’s contribution will help turn those initial judgements around.
The 20-year-old is in the northeast until the end of the season after already playing a number of times under manager Ange Postecoglou this season.
Montgomery signed a long-term contract at Celtic Park last year, which keeps him in Glasgow until 2025, so his spell at Aberdeen is very much a development loan.
He has plenty of time to make an impact at the Bhoys and will return to the first-team squad in the summer for a fresh tilt at making Postecoglou’s regular rotation.
Hopefully he can build on this confidence-boosting assist and make a name for himself under Goodwin.
Aberdeen’s next fixture is in a week’s time at home to Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership.
