Celtic goalkeeping prospect Ross Doohan is using Robby McCrorie’s international progress as inspiration for his own push into Steve Clarke’s Scotland plans, The Sunday Mail reports today (06/09 print edition, page 69).

Doohan is set to start for Scotland’s U21 side away to Lithuania in qualifying this Tuesday night after positional rival McCrorie was called up to the senior side.

The duo could be facing off in a future Glasgow derby, though both are currently out on loan at Scottish Premiership teams, Doohan at Ross County from the Bhoys and McCrorie at Livingston from Ibrox.

Doohan is pleased for his youth international teammate and is hoping to make similar headway for club and country over the next couple of years.

As quoted by The Sunday Mail (06/09 print edition, page 69), he said: “It’s great to see Robby going up to the A squad. It shows us there’s a pathway and that the manager is looking towards the future.

“It makes me want to get games for Ross County and do well for the Under-21s, then it could be me moving up.

“I try to block out the outside noise and do what’s best for me. I’ve just got tunnel vision, I only focus on myself and my own career right now.”

If he wants to follow in the Ibrox prospect’s footsteps towards Clarke’s squads, he’ll need to find a path to regular action in the Highlands.

The 22-year-old has been at County since the start of the season but has only managed to make the bench so far, with the more experienced Ross Laidlaw fancied to date.

McCrorie, in contrast, has started every single one of Livi’s games he has been available for.

The Celtic talent has previously impressed out on loan at Ayr United in the Scottish Championship, keeping 30 clean sheets in 80 appearances (Transfermarkt).

He’s also made 8 appearances for the Scotland U21 side to date, trading minutes with McCrorie.

If he can now get week-to-week action for County, it’ll be a massive benefit for Celtic and for Scotland.

In other news, Brighton’s assistant manager has had nothing but nice things to say about new Hoops signing Shane Duffy.
