Young Celtic goalkeeper Tobi Oluwayemi has been left in awe after working with Joe Hart at Lennoxtown this season.

Oluwayemi has been training more closely with the senior side under Ange Postecoglou. Naturally, this has allowed the Celtic B shot-stopper to work with Hart on a more regular basis.

The Englishman has been a stunning signing for the Hoops after arriving in the summer for an incredibly paltry £1m [Sky Sports]. Since then, he’s put in incredible display after incredible display and is part of the best defence in Scotland.

And given Hart’s experience, it’s fair to say Oluwayemi has been enjoying working under the former Spurs and Manchester City star. Speaking in the Celtic View [Volume 57, Issue 3, page 77], Tobi said: “Working with Joe has been great. I grew up watching him at Manchester City and even watching him deal with other things he’s gone through at other clubs.

“It’s not until you work with him every day that you understand his mentality and you see why he has played at the top level. The reason for this is because he gives 100% on and off the pitch and he’s a great example to me.

“He’s a great guy even if you’re not talking about football. He’s just a great example for how you should be as a person. If I ever have issues he will talk to me about them and he tells you how he feels when you need to hear it.”

Joe Hart has a key role to play in developing Tobi Oluwayemi at Celtic

Great to see this kind of leadership being shown by Hart. Not that it will surprise any of the Celtic supporters who watch him on a weekly basis.

Hart has proven himself to be an extremely productive signing since his surprising move from Tottenham Hotspur. Many believed that this was a partnership that was doomed to fail, that Hart simply didn’t fit Celtic’s wants or needs as a goalkeeper.

And whilst Hart will know he has a lot more matches behind him than he has in front of him, nobody can deny his ability to still make an impact. Time after time he’s come up with some stunning stops that have left the opposition in disbelief. In addition to that, he’s shown real competence with his distribution out from the back too.

Make no mistake, Hart will also have been signed with an eye on ensuring the continued development of Oluwayemi. The England youth international clearly looks up to Hart and will undoubtedly have him as one of heroes growing up.

It’s great to see how much our young goalkeeper is enjoying developing under the watchful eye of Hart. It’s important we have these kinds of figures in the dressing room to set a key example.

Whether Oluwayemi will one day become a number 1 at Celtic or not remains to be seen. But he certainly has an extremely valuable tutor by his side.
