The deal for Vakoun Issouf Bayo may now not be as straightforward as first thought, with Rapid Vienna now reportedly in the mix.

The Austrian outfit, according to the Daily Express, have also launched a bid to sign Celtic’s top target.

Yesterday, we spoke about how Bayo’s club, Dunajska Streda, want top-dollar for him if he leaves. This is over the £2million mark.

Vienna, however, have also reportedly made an offer that the Slovakian side deem unsatisfactory. It remains unclear as to how high the Austrian side can go in their bid, but Celtic can surely trump them.

The Hoops have been in the Champions League in two of their last three seasons. That means they’ll now have plenty of cash to stave off competition from the likes of Vienna.

The club, however, may not wish to become embroiled in a bidding-war over Bayo, who’s still relatively unproven.

Dunajska Streda want more than clubs are offering

Celtic reportedly made an offer of £1.75million last week. According to the Express, that’s highly likely to be booted out in the coming days as they hold out for more.

The Hoops have to be wary of how off-putting it is to play around with transfer bids. Celtic were too arrogant over the John McGinn deal in the summer, and this led to him eventually being disinterested and going to Aston Villa instead.

Brendan Rodgers would surely be furious if the club did likewise with Bayo. But it remains to be seen just how much Celtic do actually want the forward.

Timothy Weah is already set to finalise his loan agreement with Celtic. Rodgers would therefore be on the lookout for one more striker before the end of the window to compensate for Leigh Griffiths’ absence.

It looks as though the club will have to move rather quickly. Vienna also have the carrot of being in the last-32 of the Europa League. Given how poor they were against Rangers, he would have a better chance of playing on a weekly-basis for them.

Regardless, if Celtic want their man, it appears they’re going to have some decent competition for him.
