Celtic’s Ryan Christie has lifted the lid on the incident whilst he was away with Scotland which saw him having to self-isolate for two weeks and miss the Glasgow derby, the Scotsman reports.
Christie was forced to self-isolate for two weeks after being named as a close contact of Stuart Armstrong when Armstrong was diagnosed with Covid-19. However, the player is bemused that he had to self-isolate. He had been given permission to play PlayStation in the same room as Armstrong and Kieran Tierney.
“We were spaced out”
“The crazy thing was we were spaced out that even unintentionally we were social distanced. It wasn’t like we were on the one TV or the one Playstation” Christie said, as quoted by the Scotsman.
“Before the decision was made, and we were speaking to the government, at the time the Scotland guys measured the distance between the seats and it was 3.8 metres, or something. We were following rules and social distancing. So, it was very frustrating to have done that and still been punished for it” the Hoops man concluded.
It must have been doubly frustrating for Armstrong that whilst he missed a big game for Celtic, Kieran Tierney was able to play for Arsenal against Manchester City after his period of self-isolation came to an end.
Made Hoops return in midweek defeat
However, now is the time for Christie to move on from that incident. He made his long-awaited Celtic return as a second-half substitute in the 3-1 defeat to Milan.
Even though Celtic didn’t play all that well on the night, Christie played very well. Especially when you consider that he had been stuck self-isolating for two weeks. His corner was headed home by Mo Elyounoussi to give the Hoops a foothold in the game.
Sadly the Hoops weren’t able to get an equaliser. However, Christie performed well enough to ensure that if he is fit enough, he should start against Aberdeen on Sunday.
Hopefully he can take his annoyance at missing the derby out on the pitch against Aberdeen, and help the Hoops to three points.
