Darren O’Dea has been an important part of the Celtic furniture at youth level for a number of years, and his work seemingly hasn’t gone unnoticed.

The former Republic of Ireland international was recently installed as the Hoops’ Professional Player Pathway Manager – working to develop youngsters both internally and on loan.

Before that, he worked in conjunction with Stephen McManus coaching Celtic B. His new role will also entail liaising with clubs across Scotland and managing loan opportunities for prospects that may arise.

Still only 37, O’Dea is a highly-rated individual within the walls at Lennoxtown and has crafted an impressive post-playing career out for himself.

Now, it appears his expertise is wanted elsewhere, with a Scottish Championship outfit having him on the radar to take their managerial vacancy.

Darren O’Dea wanted by Raith Rovers

According to The Scottish Sun, O’Dea is wanted by Raith Rovers as they seek a new boss to replace Ian Murray, who left Starks Park one game into the new campaign.

Tam Courts, Kevin Thomson and Rhys McCabe are also under consideration as part of a four-man shortlist. The Scottish Championship side are now keen to explore talks with the Irishman over the vacant position.

Positively, the report claims that O’Dea is ‘unlikely’ to be lured away from Celtic due to taking up his new duties as Pathway Manager, which will come as a relief to Parkhead chiefs.

It is encouraging that his exploits at youth level are being recognised, but keeping the former Hoops central defender on the books will help to maintain the new backroom structure at Lennoxtown.

Jonny Hayes, Adam Asghar and Chris Hendry have been appointed or moved into new positions as the Bhoys look to maximise the output of their homegrown talent.

Hopefully, they can help to bring through the next conveyor belt of Celtic talent. Brendan Rodgers has made this a priority during his second spell in charge.
