On Thursday, Celtic and Rangers found out that they’d both been fined for a melee at the end of March’s derby match. The incident saw several members from both teams involved in an altercation following Celtic’s 2-1 win.
There is no doubting which side was responsible for the start of the trouble though. Gers midfielder Andy Halliday was the main architect as he surged towards Scott Brown, clearly unhappy at the level of enjoyment the Hoops skipper was getting from the victory.

Things got a little ugly from there with several frustrated Gers players involved in flashpoints with their opponents.
The equal £7,500 fine dished out to both clubs seems like a bit of a cop-out. It also sets a dangerous precedent for future clashes. It was the Ibrox side who lost their cool in the heated atmosphere. They were the ones who received two red cards and a further two retrospective suspensions – including one for manager Steven Gerrard.

Celtic, and in particular Scott Brown, did nothing wrong in the post match melee. This was proven by the fact the 33 year-old escaped punishment after a ludicrous charge went unproven last week.

Celtic travel to Ibrox next weekend knowing that they will likely be playing their first game as champions. If not, then they’ll have the chance to seal the title with a draw or better.
Thursday’s disappointing verdict means that Neil Lennon’s side will have to limit their celebrations to a bare minimum, in fear of upsetting their rivals.
