Celtic have earned a six-figure fee for player participation in the 2022 World Cup after four stars represented the club at the tournament in Qatar.
FIFA are paying out $209m to clubs around the world for player participation in the competition, working out to around £8,666 per player, per day they are at the World Cup.
Those days are calculated from a week before the opening match until the day after their final match, meaning payments were guaranteed for the entire group stage, with more then earned after Croatia, Australia, the United States and Japan progressed into the knockout rounds.
Aaron Mooy was at the tournament until a knockout fixture against Argentina on Saturday 3rd December, racking up a £181,986 total.
The same amount, £181,986, was earned by Cameron Carter-Vickers after his USA side exited on the same day against Netherlands.
Daizen Maeda was in Qatar for a few extra days given how the schedule worked out, with FIFA set to pay out £199,318.
Josip Juranovic went deep into the competition before being knocked out by Argentina at the semi-final stage, meaning his total will go up to £303,310 as he remains in the country until after the upcoming third-placed playoff against Morocco.
The total between the four players is £866,600. Celtic won’t receive all of this cash as part of the payments are delivered to clubs each has played for over the last 3 years.
However, that also means Celtic will get part of the payments for Jeremie Frimpong and Olivier Ntcham, both of whom were named in squads.
It all means the Bhoys are likely to receive a mid-to-high six-figure fee from FIFA as a result of the competition, which isn’t half bad at all at a time the club has to maximise every revenue stream.
