Celtic’s five biggest league wins vs Aberdeen since 2000 highlight the tough task ahead for Jimmy Thelin

Celtic fans will be desperate to see the domestic action resume next weekend because the next fixture against Aberdeen is bound to be an exciting one.

Both teams go into the Celtic Park clash full of confidence after they remain unbeaten after seven games and both will also believe that they can pick up three points to put some daylight between them at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

This is the first time since 2018 that Aberdeen have been talked about as challengers to Celtic for the league title and depending on how the result goes next Saturday, it could be the last.

But looking at past fixtures between the two in the league, it seems that the odds are stacked against Jimmy Thelin’s team to beat Celtic in Glasgow.

The five biggest hammerings Celtic have dealt Aberdeen in the league

The last time Celtic beat Aberdeen was back in May 2018 in a 1-0 win at Celtic Park on the last day of the season.

By that time the league was already sewn up and Brendan Rodgers’ team had nothing to play for.

However, in these five results we are about to show you, Celtic were actively competing for the league title and they don’t make good reading for Jimmy Thelin and the Aberdeen fans.

Brendan Rodgers’ overall Celtic’s record vs Aberdeen

Brendan Rodgers is, of course, no stranger to facing Aberdeen. The Dons stood in the Celtic manager’s way during his first spell at the club as he swept the Pittodrie club aside on his way to a Double Treble.

And again, against Aberdeen last season, Celtic dropped just two points against stand-in manager Peter Leven’s Dons side in February of this year.

And to further highlight the task ahead of Aberdeen, Rodgers’ overall record against the resurgent Premiership side is excellent.

Whilst Celtic will go into next weekend’s fixture confident of securing a result, nothing will be taken for granted by Rodgers or the fans.

If the Celtic side that has scored 22 league goals turns up next Saturday at Celtic Park, Jimmy Thelin’s side could be in for one uncomfortable afternoon.
