Scotland’s World Cup hero Kieran Tierney will be on cloud nine following his return to Celtic training.

The same can’t be said for Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, whose Denmark side were on the receiving end of Scotland’s incredible win.

Perhaps some of the other Celtic players will bring up Tierney’s long-range winner that helped Scotland reach the 2026 World Cup, and how Schmeichel watched it fly by.

But the man donning Celtic’s gloves has already shown his class towards not just Tierney, but also Anthony Ralston.

Kasper Schmeichel shows class towards Kieran Tierney and Anthony Ralston

The feeling would have been raw from Schmeichel after the full-time whistle had been blown.

But Tierney told Sky Sports how, ‘within the hour’, his club teammate texted himself and Ralston congratulating them on securing qualification.

“No, he is back tomorrow (Friday), so I will see him tomorrow,” said Tierney. “He sent me a lovely text after the game.

“Within the hour, he texted me and Ralston, so it just shows you the professional that he is as well.

“I said it after the game, somebody has got to lose. In the last few years, or how many years, it has usually been Scotland in a game like that.

“For us to have the fortune on our side, and the moments on our side, it’s really special. Obviously, it’s a shame for Kasper and his team.”

How can Schmeichel and his Denmark side still reach the 2026 World Cup?

It’s something Scotland don’t have to worry about now, because they have their tickets booked for America, Mexico and Canada next summer.

But Denmark still have a last chance to reach world football’s showpiece event, after let’s be honest, they made a horlicks of qualification, including dropping points to minnow Belarus.

If Schmeichel, who is 39 and has a last chance to play at a World Cup, wants to reach the main stage for one final time, then this is the road he has to go down.
