Not every important Celtic story happens on the pitch. The club’s latest £7,000 donation to the Troon Taxi Outing is a reminder of why Celtic’s founding principles still matter in 2026.
At a time when football is increasingly driven by money and results, Celtic continue to demonstrate that the values they were founded upon still matter.
The donation will support the 79th annual outing, an event that brings joy to children with additional support needs through a special day in Troon. The event has helped around 74,000 children since it began in 1945.
While the financial contribution is significant, the real story is what it says about Celtic’s continued investment in the communities they were created to serve.

Celtic continue to put community before publicity
Speaking about the donation, Tosh McKinlay said: “The Taxi Outing is one of the most heart-warming events you’ll ever have the privilege of experiencing.
“The sheer fun and joy on the kids’ faces and the generosity of all the many taxi drivers and volunteers all combine to make this such a special occasion.
“I am delighted that Celtic FC Foundation plays such a part in something so special.
“Ever since our formation, the club has always stood for community and for helping others and this event is a perfect example of that in action.”
McKinlay is right. The latest donation is not a publicity stunt or a one-off gesture. It is another example of the club putting its values into practice.
The Troon Taxi Outing itself has been creating special memories since 1945. More than 300 children benefit from the event every year, while around 74,000 youngsters have taken part since its inception.
Celtic’s long-term commitment deserves recognition
What makes this story particularly impressive is that Celtic FC Foundation has been supporting the outing for more than 20 years. According to the club, the Foundation has contributed over £200,000 during that period.
That level of sustained support matters. Anyone can write a cheque once, but maintaining a partnership for more than two decades demonstrates genuine commitment.
Celtic’s charitable work extends well beyond this event, but the Troon Taxi Outing remains one of the clearest examples of the club’s founding purpose in action. The smiles created by the day cannot be measured on a balance sheet.
For supporters, stories like this should be a source of pride. The latest donation is proof that Celtic remain committed to helping people, strengthening communities and honouring the values that helped build the club in the first place.
