Celtic should be looking for a new left-back immediately but it doesn’t seem to be happening.
At present, Kieran Tierney will be the only available left-sided defender for Neil Lennon to pick from. Emilio Izaguirre has refused a new contract and Andrew Gutman is still on-loan in America.
Hoops fans are too familiar with this dilemma which has hovered over the club for years. Failure to fix it this time round could have disastrous consequences.
Celtic repeating left-back history
The Bhoys are used to going into the end of the transfer window scrambling for a left-back.

For years the club are too happy to bring in a temporary or sub-par back-up.
Even going back to when Izaguirre was first choice, the club would find new ways to wind the fans up with the position.
The likes of Rami Gershon and Badr El-Kaddouri have come in for short spells with the club.
Even under Brendan Rodgers, Calvin Miller, a recognised forward had to fill in for Tierney on occasion.
With Izaguirre having his own injury worries, Jonny Hayes has had to deputise under Rodgers and Lennon.

Celtic are doomed to repeat history if another left-back isn’t sourced, especially as Tierney’s fitness will be a question mark during pre-season.
Celtic are not preparing themselves
The backroom staff should be stressing out over this position. It’s no secret that you need a big squad to go the course of a league season to win it.
A decent left-back is hard to come by especially in the current climate.
That’s arguably the reason Rodgers and Lennon have acted the way they have in the past.

It will be a no brainer now to recall Gutman from his loan, but even that will come with problems.
His current visa status isn’t clear and with no USA caps, it might be difficult to obtain one.
Nevertheless, the question should be asked of the highly rated full-back.
If that fails, then the scouting team have a tough job on their hands and one that requires immediate work.
