Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has become the only player in Scotland to make UEFA’s Fifty for the Future list.

The list is compiled of 50 of the best and youngest talents in European football. UEFA’s team of reporters across the continent chip in with some of the hottest young prospects around. Edouard has managed to make that list.

The likes of Eduardo Camavinga, Mason Greenwood, Ansu Fati are all in there too. Speaking about Edouard in a short paragraph, UEFA has stated the following on their website:

“Strong, athletic and deceptively quick, the ex-Paris trainee links play well and is ice-cool in front of goal; a U21 star for France, he ended 2019 top scorer in Scotland.”

Edouard makes the list having bagged an incredible 16 goals and 15 assists this season (Transfermarkt). Those numbers prove that UEFA is spot-on to highlight his incredible link-up play.

Another piece of vindication for Edouard’s Celtic development

The list appears to only count players no older than 21. As you would expect, there was no Ryan Kent in there, with Eddy far and away the best youngster in the country.

But in the grand scheme, this is real vindication for Edouard’s continued development at Celtic. With so many eyebrows raised from down south about youngsters plying their trade in Scotland, it shows just how positive their reputation can be if they continue to make waves.

This kind of recognition is also the sort of thing that will help us attract young European talents to Parkhead in the future. We’ve already developed and moved on players such as Moussa Dembele and Virgil van Dijk for example. Edouard will undoubtedly be the next when he decides it’s time to move on too.

Celtic are getting a lot of joy out of their current model, with plenty of profits being made in player sales. However, for supporters, it’s just a good feeling to see our players getting the recognition they deserve.

Last season, Edouard really made his breakthrough in Glasgow in his first full season as the number one striker. He notched 22 goals and eight assists, but he’s already well on target to beating his goal-record this term.

Eddy needs to have a solid second half of the season in order for us to achieve our goals. Hopefully, this inclusion in UEFA’s top 50 youngsters will provide him with plenty of confidence for when we resume.
