It’s becoming clearer why Celtic are reportedly interested in Kilmarnock’s Greg Taylor.

The Sun report the club are one of the teams in for the full-back.

As Arsenal are stepping up their pursuit of Kieran Tierney, the club are in dire need of a left-back. With Taylor breaking into the Scotland squad and performing domestically, he is a quick fix.

Celtic interest in Greg Taylor understandable

Whether Tierney heads down south is irrelevant in Celtic bringing in a left-back.

At present he is the only one available to Neil Lennon at the moment.

However, this heightens if Arsenal increase their offer for the Scotland international. The BBC report that the Gunners have had a £15million bid rejected for Tierney.

Celtic will need someone in who is reliable and can get the deal done quick. Taylor falls into that category and wages and fees wouldn’t be a problem for Celtic.

They’ve also had interest in his Killie teammate, Stephen O’Donnell, who plays at right-back. In similar circumstances, it could be him that takes the trip north-east to come to Parkhead.

However, as Taylor is more suited on the left, it would be more likely that it will be him instead.

The great debate is whether Tierney should even be leaving to create that gap in the team.

Kieran Tierney conundrum

Since he took over from Emilio Izaguirre, Tierney, when fit, hasn’t been pushed out the team.

This is why there’s major interest from across Europe and teams are willing to pay the big bucks.

However, a move away from the club will be a little left field due to the circumstances.

Celtic are going for nine and 10-in-a-row and some fans will have thought Tierney would be staying for that.

Even some of his teammates and management would have thought that.

Failure to qualify for the Champions League may mean needing to sell him off to cover lost costs.

However, qualification will allow Tierney’s chances of staying to flourish and Celtic to strengthen.
