Celtic’s Ryan Christie unfortunate not to pick up accolade

The first Premiership player of the month award for season 2019-2o was recently awarded to Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard.

Edouard won the award for his performances for the Hoops in August.

That is fair enough, he has had an excellent start to the season for the Hoops. However, there is one player who can consider himself unfortunate not to have won that award.

That player is Ryan Christie. Christie was exceptional for the Hoops in August. He scored four goals in the league, including a hat-trick on the first day of the season in the 7-0 win over St Johnstone.

However, that was not enough for him to be given the accolade. That won’t annoy Christie though. He will no doubt be pleased that his team-mate was given the honour.

But he can consider himself very unlucky not to be given the award.

Perhaps goal in derby made difference

He did score more league goals for the Hoops in August than Edouard did. Perhaps Edouard’s goal against Rangers made the difference, even though that game was played on the first day of September.

Still, if Christie manages to maintain his excellent start to the season, individual awards won’t be far away. If he keeps up his level of performance, he will be one of the favourites to be named as footballer of the year.

However, one of the players he may be competing against for that award could be Edouard. Still, it is a good thing for Celtic to have so many players in good form.

That has been reflected in Celtic’s results in the league, where the Hoops have won five games out of five. A big reason for that is the form of Edouard and Christie.

The duo have been key to the Hoops success so far this season. Celtic fans will be hoping that the good form doesn’t stop any time soon.
