Celtic captain Scott Brown has no regrets that he turned down the chance to end his footballing career in Australia.
The Hoops stalwart was wanted by Western Melbourne last January, the Daily Mail reported. However, Brown elected to sign a two-year deal with the Hoops instead, which keeps him at the club until the end of the 2021-22 season.
That could be the last contract he signs, as by the time the deal expires he will be 35.
Brown has been discussing his decision not to move to Australia in the wake of playing his 700th career game, and he feels it would have been a ‘really rash’ move to leave Glasgow.
Brown also has no regrets about never playing in England.
“I’m glad I stayed”
“I’m glad I stayed here” Brown said, as quoted by the Herald.
“I could have been rash and gone to England to a team that’s maybe fighting relegation or been really rash and gone to Australia to play in the last two or three seasons, seen the sun and improved my golf.”
Brown might be being a bit flippant with his comments about playing golf but it is a good thing for Celtic that he decided to stay and help the club try to win nine in a row.
Still a vitally important player to the Hoops
He might be advancing in years, but Brown is still one of Celtic’s most important players. Just look at the number of games he has played this season – 41 so far.
Brown is on course to play around 60 games for Celtic this season, which tells you how vital he continues to be to the current Hoops side.
Neil Lennon must be delighted that Brown decided to with the Hoops, as the duo work well together, as shown in both spells of Lennon’s time at Celtic manager.
Hopefully Brown’s decision is vindicated even more when at the end of the season he picks up the Premiership trophy after the Hoops make it nine in a row.
Only time will tell on that count, but Brown is as vital a player to the Hoops now as he ever has been.
