Celtic captain Scott Brown has sent a scathing message to critics of his Glasgow Derby actions.

Broony believes he acted ‘quite well’ during the highly charged match at Parkhead in March. He watched as two Rangers men were sent off following their actions towards the Hoops skipper, while another picked up a ban in the aftermath.

Brown himself avoided a ban for his post-match celebrations at an SFA hearing.

The 33-year-old explains that he took all the anger towards him on the chin and kept calm.

He told the Daily Express: “I wasn’t worried. I don’t think I did anything really wrong.

“I celebrated with my team-mates and a fight kicked off and I walked away from it.

“Somebody (Morelos) elbowed me in the face and I walked away from it.

“Somebody (Kent) punched me in the face and I walked away from it.”

As well as Kent and Morelos, Brown got caught up in a full-time row with Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday.

The Gers man squared up to Brown after the Celtic man celebrated close to the Gers support.

Halliday was given a second booking by referee Bobby Madden.

Perhaps in his early days, the likes of March’s brawl is something the captain would retaliate to.

However, he defends his current image as leader of the club.

He said: “If I was a hooligan, I’d have started a brawl in the middle of the pitch.

“But I just walked away from it all, I didn’t want to get myself booked or suspended. I think I acted quite well on the day.”

Brown was hauled up in front of an SFA panel weeks later, charged with not acting within the best interests of Scottish football.

This was thrown out and Broony avoided a two game ban at a crucial point in the season.
