Celtic are going too quiet after being apparently priced out of a move for Timothy Castagne.

The Atalanta right-back has a £10 million price tag on his head. It would be a shock if Celtic were to meet the Italian club’s valuation.

However, that was a while ago and there hasn’t been as much as a whisper on another target.

Hoops need a right-back or two

With Mikael Lustig set to leave the club reportedly at the end of the season according to the Scottish Sun, Celtic will need at least one full-back signed this window or the next at the latest.

The Swede’s performances this season haven’t been to standard, prompting his move back home.

Cristian Gamboa hasn’t been able to challenge 32-year-old and Anthony Ralston is pushing his way now into the first team.

With Ralston arguably the only right-back at the club in the summer, the Hoops will need to bolster the squad.

Atalanta right-back Castagne is reportedly the man Celtic were after.

Castagne too pricey for Celtic

The reportred fee for the Belgium international at the time was around £6 million.

As the story grew bigger, Atalanta put up barriers such as meeting his representatives and increased his price tag to £10 million.

The Bhoys won’t be looking to spend that amount in the transfer market in January. The board are haggling for a few hundred thousand pounds for striker target Vakoun Issouf Bayo, after all.

Right-back must be the number one target to fill in January as it’s often seen as the weak point of the team.

Since being priced-out for Castagne, another target hasn’t reared its head.

The Hoops are famed recently for keeping deals under wraps but the chase for Bayo and Timothy Weah have been public knowledge for a few weeks now.

Failure to equip Celtic properly in defence will mean the Hoops face a tough run to the end of the season.

The board must back Rodgers in this position or face losing him too in the summer.
