Charlie Mulgrew admits he felt for Jack Ross after Celtic’s 9-0 victory over Dundee United.

The former Hoops defender was an unused substitute in August as Ange Postecoglou‘s side demolished United for their biggest ever league away win.

Kyogo Furuhashi and Liel Abada both netted hat-tricks, and with the next Tannadice meeting this weekend, Mulgrew has been looking back.

“It was horrible, he told Sky Sports in an interview. There’s no getting away from it.

“It was a low moment and I felt a bit for Jack Ross because you feel like you maybe didn’t do enough to help him.

Mulgrew’s team-mate Steven Fletcher also has bad memories of the day.

“It was a tough game,” he said. “They’re relentless. They got up one and two.

“We were in a bad place at that time, coming off the back of the Alkmaar game and then straight in to that game.

“You were almost like ‘please don’t score again’.”

Mulgrew was then asked how to stop this Celtic side, and gave an interesting insight to United’s likely approach this weekend.

“How long have you got? Having played for Celtic and having come to places like Tannadice, the last thing you want is a difficult game, people in your face, the crowd up.

“What you want is to have nice possession and a team to sit off you and show you too much respect. I think that happens quite a lot.

“Hopefully we can step up.”

So Liam Fox’s side are likely to make the game as uncomfortable as they can for us.

While our 9-0 win was about as comprehensive a victory as you could ever hope to see, there were still a few nervy moments early on in the game.

Sunday is likely to be a tester – perhaps one of the toughest league matches we’ve got coming up.

Games between Dundee United and Celtic at Tannadice are always worth watching.
