Celtic’s win against Rangers was shown live on Premier Sports.

Fans who weren’t lucky enough to be in the stadium watched Martin O’Neill guide the Hoops to victory in the company of Rory Hamilton and Michael Stewart.

Working as Celtic-based pundits on the game were Charlie Mulgrew and Neil Lennon, who worked together at Parkhead in the early 2020s.

Mulgrew spent a brief period in charge of Scottish League One side Kelty Hearts last season, while Lennon is in charge of Dunfermline.

And when discussing O’Neill’s great Hoops side of his first spell, the two had a hilariously awkward moment.

Mulgrew owes much of his career to Lennon – his signing transformed him into a starter for Scotland.

But when reflecting on Lennon as a player, Mulgrew got a bit too honest about his ex-manager’s style of play.

And understandably, Lennon wasn’t happy, despite the moment being live on TV.

On the Go Radio Football Show, Mulgrew reflected on the hilarious moment which left him a bit unsteady.

He said: “I was asked about Martin O’Neill , so I started talking about Martin O’Neill, and how he’s transformed these players and made them more confident.

“And as I was saying, I said about back in the day, when he had players like – and this came out of my mouth before I knew it – Neil Lennon used to play the backwards and sidewards.

“And he just looked at me, shook his head and just growled at me. I thought, ‘oh no, I’ve came for him there.’

“This was live, that kind of wound it up. And then I knew he was coming for me after that. He butted in on me at one point, and said ‘you’re having a nightmare’.

He said ‘I pulled you out of the quagmire’. He always said that to me. He was brilliant, he basically pulled me out of nothing for Celtic.

“We had a laugh, it was fine. It was a wee bit of a shock, but then he came for me and got me back. So it was a good laugh.”

Charlie Mulgrew’s Celtic career under Neil Lennon

Celebrated for his versatility. Mulgrew played a wide variety of positions under Lennon at Celtic.

He left the Hoops without making a senior appearance in 2006, spending time at Dundee United, Wolves and Southend United.

It was at Aberdeen where he established himself as a top player in the SPL, and Lennon offered him the chance to return to his boyhood club.

He went on to make over 200 appearances for the Celts, spending some of that time as vice captain to Scott Brown.
