It has to be said that former Celtic legend Charlie Nicholas is one of the controversial former Hoops players. He often makes comments that Celtic fans might not agree with.
He is at it again when making his prediction for the upcoming Europa League game against Lazio. Writing for the Sky Sports website, Nicholas claims that the Hoops were ‘fortunate’ to defeat Lazio 2-1 at Celtic Park a fortnight ago.
“Celtic did brilliantly to beat them with a last-gasp winner first time around. I did flag up a 2-1 win, but they were fortunate” Nicholas said.
“Angry and agitated”
He then went on to predict a 1-0 win for the Italian side in Rome, as “Lazio will be angry and agitated as they should have gone two or three up at Celtic Park”.
The timing of Celtic’s winning goal might have been fortunate. Christopher Jullien’s injury time header gave Lazio no time to get back into the game.
However, Lazio did not dominate the game to the extent that Nicholas claims. They did have a good spell in the second-half, but Celtic were always in the game.
Hoops deserve plenty of credit for how they won game
Celtic deserve plenty of credit for how they came back from a goal down to defeat Lazio. It displayed a huge amount of character and fighting spirit. It deserves better than Nicholas saying that the Hoops were ‘fortunate’.
Celtic could have settled for a point, but they went for the winning goal, and got their rewards in the end. Hopefully they can prove Nicholas wrong in the game in Rome and come away with a memorable result.
