Celtic hero Charlie Nicholas is wading in on the club’s transfer matters this summer.

The Hoops have yet to sign a player but are trying to get moves over the line. However, even without the moves, Nicholas still believes the club have the edge over Rangers.

Despite the rivals’ six new faces, Nicholas knows where The Bhoys are wanting to buy.

Kieran Tierney and Anthony Ralston are the only familiar names on the list.

Andrew Gutman and Manny Perez are training with the club, however.

This said, Nicholas believes the club will be spending to ensure the problem is fixed but to also secure Celtic’s financial future.

He told Transfer Talk podcast: “And yet this season they want to go and look at right-backs who are £2m, centre-backs, who they require, are all being suggested at around £2m. It seems to be the £2m-£3m barrier.

“That seems to be where Celtic see themselves, where they try and look for a bargain and move it on eventually.”

However, the former striker also notes that this type of business hasn’t always worked.

He acknowledges that millions have been lost in failed players who haven’t made the step up.

The 57-year-old isn’t forgetting the Hoops’ noisy rivals across the water.

They have made numerous signings in different areas already for the coming season.

However, Nicholas isn’t convinced that this is making them better than The Bhoys.

He said: “Rangers are improving in my opinion, they have improved.

“As it still stands I still think Celtic have got a stronger squad potential because of the financial muscle they have.”

However, potential doesn’t win football matches – so the board and the scouting team better get working.
