Former Celtic striker Charlie Nicholas teared up today when talking about former manager Billy McNeill.
McNeill’s death has caused a day of real sadness in Scottish football. Rival clubs, as well as top players and managers around the world, have been sending their condolences to Celtic and the McNeill family.

It’s also been a day for former colleagues and friends of Cesar to give their stories about their relationship with him. And for Nicholas, it all got a bit much as he told a touching story about McNeill and his mother.
The video has become a popular hit today on social media. Nicholas appeared to be interviewed on Sky Sports News, but you can watch the video of his story below.

A day for past players and colleagues to come together
Nicholas has never been the most popular among the Celtic support with his comments about the club. But all of that has to be put to one side today. This a genuinely touching moment, and you can see how much the call between McNeill and Nicholas’ mother meant to him.
It’s been a long time since Scottish football has been rocked in such a way like it has today. There really has been a darkness around football since the announcement this morning.

But stories like this give us the chance to see the kind of man McNeill was. It also shows the impact his passing has on his former colleagues, who clearly seen him as more than just that.
No doubt more stories will come out regarding our greatest ever captain that we don’t know about. McNeill certainly deserves the spotlight after such an incredible professional career with the club.
You might not always agree with Nicholas, but that right there was total admiration and love for big Cesar.
