Chris Davies says it’s time for Celtic to “move on” from Brendan Rodgers saga

Former Celtic assistant manager Chris Davies has said that supporters have to “move on” from the Brendan Rodgers saga that’s engrossed the club.

Rodgers departed for Leicester City one week ago today. It came after he had been telling Hoops fans that being Celtic manager was his “dream job”. It also came just 24 hours before a massive away match at Hearts and just four days before travelling to Hibernian in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals.

The likes of John Hartson has been furious with Rodgers. The Celtic support in general, however, have also been infuriated by the manner of the Northern Irishman’s switch.

But Davies, speaking in the Daily Record, claimed that it’s time for everyone to move on.

“I watched both of Celtic’s games against Hearts and Hibs and I was cheering them on. I was hoping they’d win and thankfully that’s what happened.

“Celtic are now in a great position in the Cup and in the league and those were two important games. Hopefully they can now finish the job and win another treble. I am a Celtic supporter for life now. It was a fantastic experience.

“As Brendan said it’s understandable there will be disappointment there (from the fans). But we have to move on and Celtic have to move on. There are fresh challenges and we need to face them.”

You couldn’t expect Davies to say no

There hasn’t been much fan anger towards Davies at all since he left. No wonder either, as you couldn’t expect him to reject the chance to go with Rodgers. Their long-term association with each other means there’s real loyalty there.

But Celtic fans certainly don’t need to be told to move on. This is one saga that will never be forgiven from the Hoops faithful, and only true Celtic fans will understand why that’s the case.

Rodgers certainly seemed bemused by it all. And that, ironically, shows just how much of a Celtic supporter he isn’t in my opinion.

Of course, at least Davies can look himself in the mirror and say he cheered Celtic on in their huge matches last week. Rodgers, on the other hand, went to a Leicester youth game instead of watching the club he had managed for nearly three years take on their biggest game of the season.

It was one more final snub from Rodgers to put the icing on the cake. As for Davies? All the best to him.
