Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has given the thumbs up to Brendan Rodgers’ return to the club, stating the importance of everyone getting behind him to deliver success.

Rodgers has signed a three-year contract with the Bhoys after a short managerial search from the club to replace Ange Postecoglou. He’s spoken of his huge excitement about being given the opportunity to be the manager again.

Sutton reckons there is no questioning his credentials and has urged fans to support him despite his acrimonious exit to Leicester City in 2019.

The outspoken pundit stated on Twitter: “Good luck to Brendan Rodgers going back to Celtic. He left previously under a cloud but no doubting his ability as a coach and his record last time round was phenomenal. It’s important regardless of how Celtic fans felt with his previous departure that everyone gets behind him.”

BBC and Viaplay pundit Michael Stewart, meanwhile, also reckons it’s a “huge statement” from the Celtic board.

The former Hearts and Hibs man said on Twitter: “Getting Brendan Rodgers back at Celtic is a huge statement from the club. This is a manager of the highest calibre. No messing about they’ve got the best guy for the job.”

Celtic are reportedly ready to back the new manager with significant transfer funds and an ambitious vision for European football. That aspect of his return is as exciting as what he can bring as a coach.

We can now look forward to a big summer on all fronts. The club are heading to Asia on a pre-season tour, activity in the transfer market is guaranteed and at the end of August there’s a massive UEFA Champions League draw.

Regardless of your view on Rodgers, there’s no denying his appointment sets the tone for continued Celtic success.
