Former Celtic great Chris Sutton has given his verdict on Oliver Burke’s time at the club. The Scotland international joined the Hoops on loan from West Bromwich Albion in January but has failed to hit any sort of heights after a promising start.
The youngster netted three goals in his first six appearances under Brendan Rodgers but has had little impact since. In fact, Burke has netted just one solitary goal in his last 15 appearances for Celtic.
He’s almost certain to end a dire spell by returning to England next month but that hasn’t stopped Hoops favourite Sutton from piling on the agony.
“Oliver Burke is a no. His legs work quicker than his brain”, Sutton told the Daily Record in his column.
All speed, no idea
Sutton’s views are likely to be shared by the majority of the Celtic support who have been left frustrated by the speedsters’ decision making. There is no doubt that Burke has immense agility and pace. He gets into some wonderful areas of the pitch but is invariably let down by his end product.
It is remarkable that he was regarded as our first choice striker at the start of the year. Burke started both Valencia matches ahead of Odsonne Edouard and even with the benefit of hindsight it’s difficult to see why.
The English-born forward isn’t half the player of the Frenchman despite being a year older. Celtic need to cut their losses and make sure he doesn’t return to the club next season.
