Chris Sutton has called on Celtic to make a decision about their next manager as soon as possible.

Neil Lennon is currently interim boss. But Sutton has demanded that any appointment of the new manager is made now before it drags on into next season.

“Start planning now”

“You have to start planning now” he said whilst appearing on BT Sport Scottish Football Extra.

“If they’re not going to appoint him now and bring someone else in the summer it’s a mess, isn’t it?”

Perhaps Celtic are waiting for the right time to announce Lennon’s appointment as permanent boss. After all, the league isn’t won yet, despite the Hoops being in a good position.

Lennon planning for next season

Lennon does seem to think he has a good chance of being at Celtic next season though. He revealed to the Scottish Sun that he has had meetings with the Hoops board about plans for next season.

Sutton is correct that the new manager should be appointed as soon as possible. The Champions League qualifiers are only four months away, and plans will need to be in place by then.

But on the other hand, you can understand the reticence of the Celtic board in confirming Lennon. Particularly if they are interested in other candidates.

The situation does have to be resolved sooner rather than later though, and all at Celtic will be well aware of that.
