Chris Sutton calls for John Park return to Celtic

Chris Sutton has demanded that Celtic bring former chief scout John Park back to the club. The Hoops are currently in flux at the moment, after Brendan Rodgers left the club to join Leicester City.

It seems likely his chief scout Lee Congerton will leave the Hoops to join Rodgers at Filbert Street. Should that happen, Sutton is calling for Park to be reinstated at Celtic Park by interim boss Neil Lennon.

“Get on the phone”

“If Lennon is the man for now he is also the man for the future so let him get to business and allow him to get on the phone to talent spotter John Park” he told the Daily Record.

“This is the guy who made the club fortunes by sourcing Virgil van Dijk, Victor Wanyama, Fraser Forster and Moussa Dembele. Of course there were a few stinkers but the hits more than made up for the misses.”

Reunion could indicate future plans

A reunion between Park and Lennon would perhaps indicate that Lennon is the man for the Hoops job full-time. Particularly if he is bringing in someone to scout potential signings.

As Sutton says, Park did bring in some huge names to Celtic Park. The likes of Virgil van Dijk and Victor Wanyama were great examples of the clubs’ ‘buy low, sell high’ policy.

We shall know more about the chances of Park returning to Celtic Park in the weeks to come. For now though, Lennon and Celtic have to concentrate on matters on the pitch.
