Chris Sutton calls on Celtic to make quality additions to squad

Chris Sutton has called on Celtic to fill in the gaps in the squad that have recently opened up in the wide area with quality purchases, or risk losing out on nine in a row.

Scott Sinclair has joined Preston North End, whilst the club have agreed a fee with Inter Miami for the transfer for Lewis Morgan.

Sutton feels that Celtic are lacking numbers in the wide area of the pitch.

“It wasn’t so long ago Rodgers was saying he had a million wingers, but they look light in those areas now with Scott Sinclair away and Lewis Morgan set to go as well” Sutton said, writing in his column in the Daily Record.

He then addressed the exit of Sinclair and likely departure of Morgan.

“I can understand Morgan wanting to go somewhere he’ll play every week and Miami sounds as good a place as any.

“A lot of fondness”

“As for Sinclair, there will be a lot of fondness for the winger after he signed for Preston. The move probably came six months later than it should have but most people will look back on his time at the club as a major positive.

Sutton then opened up on what might happen if quality replacements aren’t brought in to the club.

“Celtic will need quality replacements – otherwise they might not be reigning come the end of the season.”

Sutton is on the money when it comes to both Morgan and Sinclair. It is understandable why Morgan will want to move on, as he hasn’t been a regular for the Hoops.

As for Sinclair, he was exceptional at times for Celtic, especially in his first season. However, the time was right for the player to move on. He didn’t make one start for the club this season, and it was best for all concerned that he left.

As Sutton says though, the players need to be replaced with ‘quality’ individuals. That is what Neil Lennon and Nick Hammond will be working on. Hopefully the players that are signed in January are able to replace the ones that have left the club. If they aren’t of the same quality, Celtic could run the risk of losing out on nine in a row, and that would be unforgivable.
