Celtic hero Chris Sutton has penned a brutal column on Michael Beale in the wake of this week’s media furore, slamming the Rangers boss for the way he left QPR and the way he’s been speaking about Celtic all the time, amongst other issues.
Beale seemingly had a pop at Sutton after the pundit questioned whether he would have allowed Celtic to score in a derby in the same manner as Partick Thistle’s gifted equaliser last week. [Daily Record]
The former Celtic striker has responded as outspokenly as you’d expect, leaving everyone questioning why Beale created the media storm in the first place.

Chris Sutton taking no nonsense from Michael Beale
Writing in his column today, Sutton appears to have had the last laugh, telling The Daily Record: “Beale has clearly got a bee in his bonnet or perhaps he is just pandering to the masses. His meltdown was quite funny though. Worst player ever at Chelsea? I can assure him I’m more popular than he is in West London these days.
“Beale suggested muting me but plenty of QPR fans will have wished he had muted himself after talking about his loyalty to the club one minute and running up to Glasgow the next. Also, I thought he was all about free speech. Does that only apply when it comes to him talking about Celtic every week and passing comment about their finances and so on?”
Sutton then launched into a withering conclusion that suggested comments from Ibrox could become far stranger if they lose next week’s Scottish League Cup final against the Bhoys.
He said: “If you are getting all bent out of shape over a couple of innocuous comments when you are winning, what the heck is going to happen if they lose a few games? What will he be like if Rangers lose at Hampden next week?
“There have already been some strange comments, like the Postecoglou lucky man stuff, and now there’s this outburst over absolutely nothing. Goodness knows what will happen when the serious heat is on. Beale can point the finger at ‘comic acts’ but losing the plot this early should be no laughing matter for Rangers supporters.”
Celtic have the chance to do their own talking on the pitch in that Hampden clash. It’ll be far from easy at the national stadium but picking up the win would be a glorious way to kick-off our trophy push this season.
Ange Postecoglou and his Bhoys will be paying little attention to this back and forth from the Rangers boss and Sutton but for supporters, it has been an amusing saga. I doubt Beale will be taking shots at Sutton going forward.
