Chris Sutton doesn’t agree with Celtic fans who place more importance in winning nine in a row than qualifying for the Champions League.
Indeed, the former Hoops striker believes that the qualifying for the Champions League should be the ‘priority’ for the Hoops this season.
“It always matters”

“I don’t get this notion the Champions League doesn’t really matter these next couple of years. It always matters” Sutton said, as reported by the Daily Record.
“The Champions League has to be the priority. Yeah, nine in a row is nice but if I was at the club I know what I would be targeting – the big European nights.”

It is hard to argue with Sutton’s view. When you look at the biggest Celtic victories of the decade, arguably the most notable is the 2-1 Champions League win over Barcelona.
Hoops boss will want more big wins in Europe

Neil Lennon has had some of his best results as Celtic manager in Europe. You would imagine that the Hoops boss will want to have a few more of those in his second spell as Hoops manager.
However, the holy grail of 10 in a row is just around the corner for the Hoops. Winning 10 titles in a row would give the fans huge bragging right over Rangers.
That might not be what the Celtic board and indeed staff think though. Qualifying for the Champions League would be a huge boost financially for the club.
In the early weeks of the season at least, the Champions League should be the focus.
