Chris Sutton, never one to shy away from an opinion on Celtic issues, has weighed into the Eddie Howe debate tonight.

It’s an exciting time to be a supporter. It’s not often we get to enjoy the hype of a new era dawning at Celtic Park.

Despite a deeply disappointing season, there is real hope the club can make a big appointment and move towards success again next term.

Sutton was asked for his opinion on BT Sport tonight, alongside colleague Ally McCoist.

The former Celtic striker reckons he can smell fear coming from the Ibrox favourite!

He told BT Sport: “I’m looking at McCoist right now and I can see fear. I can smell fear. What surprised me is that Eddie Howe has been out of the job since the end of last season and he hasn’t been put in the position before now.

“I think Eddie Howe would be a good appointment. He’s young, he’s hungry, he’s organised. I think he can handle himself.

“Having said all that, Bournemouth is a totally different kettle of fish to Celtic and he will be under intense pressure.”

Sutton goes on to lay out concern with John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan remaining part of the coaching staff, but it’s clear the Parkhead icon is happy with the thought of Howe taking charge.

The multiple trophy winner went on to say: “The job Eddie Howe did at Bournemouth was exceptional. The brand of football will not be a problem.”

Howe would definitely add a much-needed jolt to the Celtic support ahead of next season.

There’s much work to be done. He won’t guarantee success. Recruitment has to be spot on.

However, it’d be a positive appointment for many fans.

As for Rangers running scared? A funny comment from Sutton that will no doubt wind them up.

In other news. Patryk Klimala is being eyed for a permanent exit away from Celtic.
