Chris Sutton says that Celtic are a bigger club than Leeds United and that the Parkhead job is a bigger draw for Ange Postecoglou.
Postecoglou was talked about in connection with the vacant managerial post at Elland Road but has not given any serious indication he would go there.
In the Daily Record, Sutton wrote that Ange would be an ideal fit at Liverpool and could take on a club of that size – hypothetically.
But he thinks that the Champions League would be a big part in Ange’s thinking and talked up what he can achieve at Celtic.
Sutton says Celtic are bigger than Leeds
Sutton said: “Just an example because I don’t want people thinking I’m advocating for or predicting the exit of Jurgen Klopp from Liverpool.
“But, if the German were to leave his post at Anfield tomorrow, I don’t think there are many who wouldn’t think Postecoglou could go into a club of that size and make an impact.
“He plays their attacking brand of football and has shown in Glasgow he can handle a big environment. Of course, the majority of the smaller clubs in England’s top-flight would be interested. But would Postecoglou be interested in them?
“Would he really want to swap Celtic for a Wolves or a Brentford? Can’t see it myself. Leeds are big, but not as big as his current club. It’s making a mark in Europe which holds the real appeal. Postecoglou has said himself how much he wants that.”
Sutton also said elsewhere in his column that he does not think Ange would leave Celtic mid-season, like Brendan Rodgers did.
It is hard to disagree with that, and it is more than likely he would remain until the end of the season at the very least, even if Leeds really came in with a strong approach.
Celtic have unfinished business in the Champions League, while Leeds are at risk of dropping into the Championship unless they get their next appointment right.
In other news, St Mirren boss refuses to make error other teams do vs Celtic; will still suit Ange.
