Hyeongyu Oh’s winner at Celtic Park on Wednesday was a thrilling moment and one much-needed not just for the team but for the South Korean’s personal trajectory at the Bhoys.
Oh latched on to Odin Holm’s pass, shuffled the ball out of his feet and finished superbly in the 83rd minute to power Celtic to a big 2-1 win over St Mirren on Wednesday night.
It was his first goal after 11 substitute appearances for Brendan Rodgers and exactly the kind of moment we have been waiting for from him to ignite his season.
Oh has been the focus of criticism over the last couple of weeks for lacklustre impacts from the bench, with Chris Sutton recently suggesting Rodgers didn’t fancy him as an option.

However, Sutton couldn’t help but praise the South Korean international’s contribution on social media after last night’s impact, stating on X: “Huge goal from the bench tonight for Celtic and Oh. Clever pass from Holm, excellent feet from Oh to finish👏👏🍀”
Hopefully, this can be the start of consistent contributions from the 22-year-old. Celtic cannot rely on Kyogo Furuhashi in every match.
Fatigue takes its toll during heavy schedules and even if Rodgers doesn’t quite trust Oh to start matches, he can undoubtedly provide much-needed firepower in the second half of games.
With question marks surrounding him, the striker has answered his critics and come up with one of the biggest goals of the campaign so far.
He must now use it as a catalyst for bigger and better things under Rodgers. We all want him to fulfil potential.
