Celtic legend Chris Sutton has hailed Timothy Weah after the attacker turned in a good performance in the Hoops’ 2-0 win over St Mirren.

Weah was handed only his third start for the Hoops, and he responded in style, opening the scoring in the 2-0 win.

It was a performance which impressed Sutton. The former Hoops attacker took to Twitter after the match and claimed that Weah’s display was ‘exciting’.

Weah was certainly more effective against St Mirren than his fellow attacker Oliver Burke, who didn’t have the best of games.

Lennon would have been impressed

No doubt Celtic interim boss Neil Lennon would have been impressed by Weah. He was full of energy on a night when so many of his team-mates seemed lacking.

Does that mean that Weah will be handed more starts for Celtic in the weeks ahead? It’s hard to say. He does deserve to keep his place in the team for Saturday’s game against Livingston.

More experienced players may get nod

But Lennon might well turn to his more experienced players for the upcoming Scottish Cup semi-final against Aberdeen.

That is a game which might well see Weah return to the bench.

Only time will tell how often Weah features for the Hoops between now and the end of the season. It has to be said though, that he did his cause a power of good against St Mirren.
