Chris Sutton hasn’t been completely convinced by Scott Bain’s recent Celtic performance the former Hoops striker has disclosed, whilst appearing on the Daily Record Celtic podcast.
Bain has recently taken over from Vasilis Barkas in goals for the Hoops, and has started Celtic’s last three games. However, Sutton feels that there are still concerning moments when it comes to watching Bain play for the Scottish champions.
“Am I still convinced about Scott Bain? No I’m not, I think there are other moments in the game, hiding behind the settee time, but Neil Lennon will see him train every day, he’ll get advice from Stevie Woods the goalkeeping coach, and at this moment in time, he’s giving Scott Bain a run out as he wants his best goalkeeper in” Sutton said, as quoted by the Daily Record Celtic podcast (17m 45s; 03/11/20).
Comments are a bit harsh
Sutton’s comments are a tad harsh on Bain. After all, it shouldn’t be forgotten about that Bain helped Celtic land a domestic treble only two seasons ago. He is prone to lapses in judgement maybe, but then so are all goalkeepers.
At this moment in time both Bain and Barkas need more support, as neither seems certain to be Celtic’s number one for the foreseeable future.
A problem that Sutton and others might have with the current goalkeeping situation is that neither man is Fraser Forster.
Former goalkeeper needs to be forgotten about
Forster was, of course, superb for Celtic last season. He was a key reason for the success the Hoops had.

However, he decided not to return to the club. Those people pining for the former Hoops goalkeeper need to move on.
For the moment, Bain is in possession of the goalkeeping jersey, and hopefully he can perform as well as he did when he was Celtic’s number one goalkeeper a few seasons ago. He at least deserves that chance.
