Celtic legend Chris Sutton has implored the club not to sell Odsonne Edouard in the current transfer window, the Daily Record reports.

Sutton believes that the Frenchman is so pivotal to the prospects of winning 10 in a row that he should not be sold no matter what sum of money the Hoops are offered in the transfer window.

Sutton made the claim in his Daily Record column.

“Quite simply he is priceless. He comes across quite content at the moment and everyone who speaks about him, including Lennon, suggests he’s enjoying himself and is happy to stay” Sutton began.

“No reason to sell”

“If that’s the case, Celtic have no reason to sell him and that goes for any figure. It doesn’t matter what gets put on the table whether it is £30million, £40m or £50m” the former Celtic striker concluded.

There is no doubt that every Celtic fan reading Sutton’s comments will be in agreement with the Hoops great. However, the club would have a decision to make if it was offered the sums that Sutton mentions.

Could Celtic really afford to turn down a bid of £50million for a player? That would seem unlikely.

However, perhaps in this one-off 10 in a row season the club will be more inclined to keep hold of the players who will be key to the prospect of winning the league.

Champions League could be a factor

Celtic’s quest to qualify for the Champions League group stages might also have an impact on Edouard’s future. He will be more than eager to make his mark in the biggest club competition in football. That has not happened at Celtic in the last two seasons.

Would he be as keen to stay at Celtic if the club fails to qualify for the third season in a row? Only time will tell.

Edouard’s future at Celtic might not be decided until the transfer window closes in October. There will no doubt be teams interested in the player. However, Sutton has firmly declared that the player cannot be sold. Hopefully Celtic’s board agree with him.
