Chris Sutton impressed with Albian Ajeti's Celtic career so far

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has been impressed with Albian Ajeti’s start to his Hoops career, the Daily Record Celtic podcast reports.

The former West Ham striker has scored four goals in his short time with the Hoops, most recently finding the back of the net in the 3-2 win over Livingston.

The quality of Ajeti’s finishing has particularly impressed Sutton.

“Knows where the goal is”

“He certainly knows where the goal is. He looks to be a ruthless finisher, which is a really, really, good sign, I thought his finish at the weekend was brilliant, he looks to be really instinctive” Sutton said, as quoted by the Daily Record podcast.

Sutton was certainly a good finisher in his time. Therefore, he will know all about good strikers, and Ajeti has certainly been that so far for Celtic.

Ajeti’s finishes for the Hoops certainly have been instinctive as Sutton outlines. You only need to look at his on the turn snapshot goal against Ross County for an example of that.

Ajeti’s performances have made sure that Celtic haven’t missed the goals of Leigh Griffiths so far this season. It will be interesting to see if Ajeti and Griffiths battle it out for a first-team place now that Griffiths is fully fit once more.

Strike duo have only started together once

What Celtic fans would really like to see though is a strike partnership of Ajeti and Odsonne Edouard. So far, the duo have only started one game together.

That was against Ross County, and it was a success as both players scored in Celtic’s 5-0 win. However, an injury to Edouard put the partnership briefly on the back burner.

Now both players are fully fit. The fans would no doubt like to see the duo start up-front against Riga FC in the Europa League qualifier on Thursday evening. Neil Lennon must be tempted to start the strike pairing. If they are on song, they are more than capable of both finding the back of the net in Estonia.

However, with Celtic’s European campaign on the line in a one-off game, the Hoops boss may decide to be a bit more cautious, and only play one striker.

If Ajeti doesn’t start though, at least he is in good enough form to make a difference off the bench.
