Former Celtic hero Chris Sutton has had a pop at Sam Allardyce after the former England manager suggested anyone could win trophies at Celtic.

As we discussed earlier today, Allardyce was speaking on talkSPORT this morning during the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, mouthing off about Scottish football and how easy it is to win things, when discussing Brendan Rodgers.

He said: “We can all go to Celtic and win trophies. It will be Rangers soon the way they are going under Steven Gerrard.

“Fans expect you to win trophies and if you don’t do that then you’d get the sack. I agree with what Brendan was saying and it was a great move for him because it built his reputation again.

“But I didn’t think there was anything wrong with him because he was brilliant at Liverpool, just a bad patch of recruitment cost him his job.”

Sutton though is apparently having none of his comments, taking to Twitter this afternoon.

Spot on

The former Hoops striker is, of course, correct with his assertion that Allardyce would never even get near the Celtic job and likely never would have at any stage in his career.

As for his comments about trophies heading to Ibrox, well, it’s a bit premature for all that isn’t it? They’ve yet to prove they can maintain consistency over the course of a whole season. We’ll also be favourites in the upcoming League Cup final at Hampden given our derby success at Ibrox earlier in the campaign.

It’s fair to say some fans enjoyed Sutton’s barbed jibe, taking to Twitter themselves to share their thoughts on it all…
