Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has taken to Twitter to mock Rangers captain James Tavernier and his comments praising the Ibrox side’s ‘winning mentality’.
Tavernier was speaking to Sky Sports earlier about that subject, demonstrating a stunning lack of self-awareness.
As quoted by the broadcaster, he said: “We go into the start of the season wanting to win every game.
“Obviously we go into the middle part of the season wanting to win every game so I don’t see this as any different if we go back and it’s the final stage, we’ll want to be winning every game.
“We’ve got a winning mentality as players and as a club.”
Celtic have cleanly swept aside domestic competition in every tournament since the Ibrox side were promoted to the Scottish Premiership.
Now, that’s a stunning display of winning mentality.
Rangers meanwhile have been left embarrassed season after season
When football was suspended last month Celtic were a massive 13 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership after a dreadful run of form for Steven Gerrard’s failing side.
Sutton was clearly left amused by Tavernier’s comments, remarking on Twitter with a multitude of laughing emojis, as well as saying: “Amazing what a month away from football does for the confidence…”
As a regular live pundit at Scottish Premiership matches, Sutton will know as well as anyone that Tavernier is talking utter nonsense.
He’s never shy in putting them in their place.
