Former Celtic striker has named the player that he would be ‘stunned’ to see leave Celtic in the summer transfer window. That player is midfield mainstay Callum McGregor.

Recent reports suggest that Leicester City, Brighton and Southampton were interested in the player. But Sutton can’t see the Hoops selling the player, especially to Leicester.

“There’s been talk about Brendan Rodgers taking McGregor to Leicester City but I would be stunned if that happened” Sutton said, as reported by the Daily Record.

“Not only would it be some cheek from Rodgers after the way he left the club but it would also be a major decision for Celtic to sell such an important player.”

It would not make sense for the Hoops to sell any of their most important players when nine in a row is on the line.

Most important player in the side

McGregor is probably the most important player Celtic have at the moment. The team functions through him. Selling him would be a mistake, no matter how much money is offered from England.

What the Hoops should be looking to do is improve their squad, not weaken it by selling players. Hoops boss Neil Lennon would no doubt agree with this. He would implore the club to knock back any bids received for McGregor.

He will be one of the foundations that the Celtic bid for nine in a row is built on.
