Chris Sutton names two ‘tremendous’ players in Celtic win over Aberdeen

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton hailed two Celtic stars as tremendous after yesterday’s 6-0 win over Aberdeen.

After a tough midweek match against Atletico Madrid, Celtic bounced back against Aberdeen with a convincing victory, despite doubts around the team due to long-term injuries to Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, and Liel Abada.

Celtic got off to a fast start with two goals from Hyunjun Yang and Kyogo Furuhashi within the first 16 minutes of the game, effectively taking Barry Robson’s Aberdeen out of the match early on.

This was more about Celtic’s performance than Aberdeen’s, as it was clear that Celtic needed to rebound after Tuesday’s defeat to Atletico Madrid.

The reaction Brendan Rodgers was able to get from his team was incredible and demonstrated the level of managerial prowess in the Celtic Park hotseat.

While other teams might have been lacklustre and deflated after a midweek defeat, this was not the case for Celtic. Celtic fans were treated to a memorable show and performance, leaving the Hoops in a good position going into the final international break of the calendar year.

Speaking on social media site X Sutton said: “Excellent response from Celtic after Tuesday’s humiliation in Madrid. Matt O’Riley and Luis Palma, tremendous displays.”

Matt O’Riley has rightly received praise throughout the season for his outstanding performances, tallying six goals and five assists in just 12 Scottish Premiership games. He has notably elevated his game by improving the one aspect he had previously struggled with: scoring goals.

Luis Palma, who joined from Aris Thessaloniki in the summer, initially took time to adapt to life at Celtic. However, in recent weeks, it has become clear that he is now settled and ranks among the Bhoys’ top players. This is despite the significant challenge of filling the boots left by Jota, who departed the club for Al-Ittihad in the summer.

Questions loomed over the state of the Celtic squad before yesterday’s game due to injuries, but those questions were answered well.

It’s evident that Celtic are steadily growing as a team, and Brendan Rodgers is successfully shifting the tide in his favour with both performances and results in the Scottish Premiership. With only two draws in 13 games, the team has shown promise, and fans are now getting a better glimpse of Rodgers’ team’s style of play.
