The season is now officially over for Celtic fans but last night the final Scottish fixture was played out as Livingston took on Partick Thistle in the Scottish Premiership play-off.

David Martindale’s side were looking down and out in their quest to join Celtic in the top flight just a few short months ago.

However, Livingston rallied late into the season and after finishing second in the Championship, almost winning it, they took care of Scott Brown’s Ayr United and now Mark Wilson’s Partick Thistle as Martindale can now look forward to two guaranteed fixtures at Celtic Park next season.

But not everyone is happy with the return of Livingston to Scotland’s top league and Chris Sutton summed up that feeling perfectly with his reaction to Martindale’s side’s promotion.

Celtic hero Chris Sutton’s verdict on Livingston’s promotion is bang on

First off, let’s offer a congratulations to Livingston on their promotion. It’s no mean feat trying to get out of the Championship and Martindale’s side showed grit and determination to do that this season.

However, with the return of the West Lothian club also means the return of something that Celtic fans and Sutton absolutely detest.

Taking to X, Sutton said, “Three plastic pitches in the Scottish Premiership next season.” with three head-slap emojis.

That synthetic pitch has led to Celtic managers in the past managing the squad with the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi and even Cameron Carter-Vickers having to be left out of matchday squads due to the style of the pitch.

Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic record vs Livingston

Brendan Rodgers has dominated Scottish football with Celtic over two spells as the Hoops boss.

With Livingston set to return to the Scottish Premiership how does Rodgers’ record fare overall against Livingston and their dreadful pitch?

The only dropped points Celtic have had under Rodgers was, yes you’ve guessed it, at Almondvale on the synthetic pitch.

The other two fixtures on the same pitch had Celtic run out 3-0 winners on both occasions. Whilst the pitch is not welcomed by many fans, at least the Hoops’ record playing on it isn’t that bad.
