Chris Sutton has given a verdict each for eleven Celtic players as we head into October.

The former Parkhead striker is not one to hide his opinions and has blasted the way Celtic are playing at the moment.

The Hoops have scored just one goal in their last three games and sit two points behind Hearts in the Scottish Premiership.

That gap may increase to five if the Jambos secure victory over Hibs in the Edinburgh derby on Saturday evening.

Sutton has branded Celtic ‘boring’ to watch and feels the team Brendan Rodgers has at his disposal are disjointed and lacking chemistry in attacking areas.

Writing in his Daily Record column, here’s his assessment of eleven different Celtic players.

James Forrest

“I always feel James Forrest can make a difference but it’s unfair to hang it all on a 34-year-old.”

Michel-Ange Balikwisha & Shin Yamada

“No one knows what’s going on with Michel-Ange Balikwisha while Shin Yamada might as well be cutting the grass at Lennoxtown.”

Sebastian Tounekti

“Sebastian Tounekti has shown promise and is prepared to take on his man. But it’s still about the link up with the rest, and that is going to take time.”

Kelechi Ihenacho & Daizen Maeda

“Iheanacho has come in and done okay, but he’s still clearly short of fitness and there’s Daizen Maeda, who was out the door and is now shunted out to the right.

“I still feel that’s the best place for him right now because needs must, but it’s not his most comfortable position, and then against Braga he ended up at wing-back.”

Kasper Schmeichel

“There’s the goalkeeping situation with Kasper Schmeichel struggling for form. His position must be under threat.”

Kieran Tierney

“Alistair Johnston’s dynamism is a huge miss and while I love Kieran Tierney, he’s not yet proved to be an improvement on Greg Taylor, who brought a lot to the side when he stepped into midfield.

“If anything, Taylor’s absence is being felt more by the week. The middle of the park isn’t working.”

Benjamin Nygren

“Benjamin Nygren has shown positive signs in Scotland but he wants too much time in Europe. You need to think and move quicker, take the ball on the move and pass it sharper.”

Reo Hatate & Callum McGregor

“Hatate isn’t as effective as he has been and while people are pointing the finger at Callum McGregor, I actually have sympathy for him.

“He likes to take the ball on the turn and knit things together but he clearly doesn’t trust the players around him because they keep losing the ball and he’s the one who has to mop up. You can’t blame him for taking safer options.”
