Chris Sutton appears to have had enough of the absurd analysis of decisions in the wake of Celtic’s win over Aberdeen mid-week.
We’ve all seen it – dodgy video clips on social media, even worse amateur VAR stills of strange lines across a pitch, bitter ex-referees. Sutton is so fed up he’s even taken aim at his own paper, the one he writes a weekly column in – The Daily Record.
He’s taken aim at their offside analysis from the third goal against the Dons, stating: “That’s the sort of straight line l would draw after a few pints…”
It kind of sums it up really. That Sutton feels the need to call out his colleagues shows how absurd the focus on minutiae and marginal calls is getting.
Ange Postecoglou has already called it out this season, preferring to focus on the balance of play in a game and the football that was played rather than these calls that can go either way.
If you reckon Celtic didn’t deserve to win that game against the Dons then you probably weren’t watching it. That’s the way I see it.
Celtic responded to Aberdeen equalising expertly, with a superb move up the pitch to catch them cold when their goal was still sinking in. That’s how Postecoglou football works.
Others don’t like it. We know that by now. Many outlets and pundits are struggling with how to deal with Celtic success and the turnaround we’ve seen since Postecoglou arrived.
Sutton, at least, isn’t afraid to call it out.
In other news, Matt O’Riley has a brilliant long-term goal at Celtic.
