Chris Sutton savages Rangers after win over Celtic

Chris Sutton has hit out with a savage tweet as he reacted to Rangers’ win over Celtic.

The Ibrox side recorded their second consecutive win over the Hoops at Ibrox this afternoon. The 2-0 success was, unfortunately, thoroughly deserved too, with Neil Lennon’s men well off the pace.

It puts a sour end to the league campaign for us ahead of trophy day against Hearts on Sunday. But despite that, Sutton wasn’t in the mood to let it spoil his day. The ex-Celt has made a habit of cute digs at the Ibrox club over the years, and he was happy to do so once again.

What on earth did we just watch?

Make no mistake, what we just watched was worse than December’s 1-0 loss at Ibrox. It was perhaps the most embarrassing performance of the season, with Celtic looking even more lethargic and sloppy than they did in the last meeting in Govan.

Several months ago at Ibrox, Celtic at least created chances. Callum McGregor slotted home a disallowed equaliser, before Olivier Ntcham came close at the death. There weren’t many, but there was something. A glimmer of threat at the very least.

All Celtic had to show for today was a sclaffed Oliver Burke effort from close-range. Outside of that, we offered absolutely nothing. That’s not an over exaggeration – absolutely nothing.

Jonny Hayes was a popular outlet down the left, but everyone could see how frustrated he was getting. If he wasn’t turning back and giving it back to Scott Bain, he was moaning at the lack of movement in front of him.

But you could run through each and every one of the starting line-up and go through them. It was a game that demanded a level of performance we look unable to produce under Neil Lennon.

The likes of Sutton can have a good laugh. God knows we’ll need a few over the next few days. But we have a problem on our hands here with the gap between ourselves and Rangers.

Make no mistake, they absolutely bossed it. There’s no point denying it. Outclassed and outthought, and not for the first time this season. It’s time to regroup in the summer and make sure we gear up for a challenge, because that was absolutely pathetic.
