Chris Sutton says Celtic are about to make a ‘fascinating’ signing he has ‘doubts’ about

Jota is rumoured to be on the verge of a sensational return to Celtic.

The Portuguese winger left Celtic for £25m two summers ago just as Brendan Rodgers had returned to the club for his second spell.

Since leaving Celtic, Jota’s career has stalled as he struggled to get game time at Al-Ittihad as he made just 25 appearances, mostly from the Saudi club’s bench.

Jota then joined Rennes as the Celtic hero looked to kickstart his career again but a managerial change at his new club left him out in the lurch once again.

With Kyogo ready to join Jota’s club, it seems that that move has facilitated the 24-year-old’s winger return to Celtic Park but it is a transfer that has Chris Sutton unconvinced.

Chris Sutton questions Jota’s ‘hunger’ ahead of big Celtic move

Sutton was a huge admirer of Jota at Celtic but it seems that his potential return to the club has not filled him with confidence.

Sutton wrote in the Daily Record, “Jota is fascinating. He’s barely played since leaving Celtic. If people expect the same Jota to come back, then great. But I have my doubts.

“How hungry is he? He had that hunger the first time around, but he needs to prove himself again. Three starts for Rennes this term.

“He’ll need time. And you need guys ready to crack on without a bedding-in period.”

Jota’s Celtic record makes Parkhead return a no-brainer

Jota was a firm fan favourite at Celtic and when you look at his record over two seasons, it’s not hard to see why.

The Portuguese winger scored many important goals for Celtic over his time at the club with the best, arguably, this one against Rangers.

Scoring Celtic’s second in a 4-0 drubbing of Rangers earned Jota a special place in the Celtic fans’ hearts. So with that in mind, here is the Portuguese winger’s record in full.

If Celtic can seal the deal for Jota then it will help ease the pain of losing Bhoys hero Kyogo to Rennes and at least with the 24-year-old, Hoops fans know what they are going to get.
