Chris Sutton says Celtic are “getting there” after extending remarkable cup run

Chris Sutton has highlighted the performances of Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie, and Tom Rogic as he hailed Celtic’s Hampden heroes today.

Neil Lennon’s side added to their building block in Lille with a dominant 2-0 win against Aberdeen to book a place against Hearts in the Scottish Cup final. Even more impressively, it extended Celtic’s unbeaten cup run to 35 games.

Goals from Christie and Mohamed Elyounoussi were enough to down Derek McInnes’ Dons side, who showed up better in the second 45. However, at that stage, Lennon’s side showed their quality defensively as they saw the game out with something to spare.

So many positives to take for Celtic today

There are a whole host of positives we can take from this afternoon’s cup semi-final that it’s difficult to know where to begin.

Looking at Sutton’s tweet, all three players mentioned contributed tremendously. Christie’s opener was world-class, whilst Rogic managed to secure himself two more assists. As for Edouard, just seeing him back in the starting line-up was a huge boost. He’ll only get better.

Yet there is more to our positives today than just those three.

Scott Brown and Callum McGregor anchored the midfield more effectively today, whilst Shane Duffy produced his most dominant performance as he bullied Sam Cosgrove out of the game for long spells.

Then there is the fact that Hatem Elhamed returned whilst Nir Bitton managed to play for 90 minutes and looked composed for the most part. Diego Laxalt continued to look imperious, whilst Scott Bain secured his first clean sheet since taking the place of Vasilis Barkas in goal.

All of that and it comes off the back of a European game on Thursday night against Lille too. It was tremendous work by all of the Bhoys today – especially considering the pressure we were under.

All eyes now switch to the Sparta Prague contest on Thursday night. Hopefully, the Hoops can pull another big win out of the hat.
